Pursuing Your Dreams
I am at my wits end for the way things are being done at POEA. Instead of facilitating the papers of overseas workers and helping the OFW leave as soon as possible, the fees they impose make it almost a mockery to leave. No wonder people sell their properties, and other belongings just to leave this country.
I fall under the category of "direct hire" which should actually make things easier, right? That's where I was mistaken. I had to go to the accredited recruitment agency who was candid enough to tell me that I have to pay the full amount - one month's salary in order for them to facilitate my papers. Is that correct? After all the trouble I went through to have all my papers in order, I still have to pay a huge amount just to do what I thought was lawful.
Wow! I have not even left yet and I would be in debt? I think when you have the right qualifications for the job, people will do their best to take you in, regardless of the cost. And for the country to have more of the "dollar remittances" that OFWs are famous for, then the government should help facilitate things and not cripple our workers from having a better way of life.
I have another option though. I can leave on a short term basis. I was requested to conduct a seminar, so that I will do and pray that things will turn out better there. I had wanted to do the right thing and follow the law. Sometimes the lawful thing to do may not always be right...
I pray for the best. I hope that the Lord will make a way when there seems to be no way...
